It's also well written and does stem from great creativity, but I found it lacked too much detail and sophistication. The characters, too, fell flat and as a few things went unexplained we were left with scattered holes in the plot. One thing I can say I enjoyed was the photographs- they're scattered throughout the book, all black and white and remarkably creepy.

I am not giving anything away by letting you know that on this island he finds a very special place and some very special people. After its strong beginning, it fizzles into this bland and predictably dull tale. It's very unique and unconventional so I can see it's appeal.

It does have a sense of moving forward, making you anticipate the next book. Seeing this book when I entered the bookstore one time, the peculiar cover truly piqued my curiosity. I didn't buy it that instant though or the time after that and the time after that.
